Mxprkr, or Max Parker, a 22-year-old artist from downtown Toronto, began his musical journey at a young age, influenced by a diverse range of artists. Initially drawn to electric guitar, he later transitioned to classical studies, achieving significant milestones such as completing the 10th-level examination at the Royal Conservatory of Music and performing at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall.

Enrolling at Rosedale Heights School of the Arts fueled Max’s passion for music, Max formed and had success with his duo project, Taxed throughout the pandemic. Taxed morphed into the solo project “mxprkr” when Thomas changed his focus to his education. Undeterred, Max honed his music production and engineering skills, eventually securing a position as a head engineer at Carlawft Studios in Toronto.

Furthermore, Max recently created the artist project “Breath,” with a focus on acoustic soundscapes. He has written, recorded, produced, and mixed an album titled “The Breath” for the project. Max has also assembled a band for live performances, featuring talented musicians such as Lazar Miric on saxophone, Mateos Labbe-Phelan on drums, Bjorn Kriel on keys and multi-instrumentation, and Dante Hayes on bass, with the first three being U of T Jazz students.

  • Breath is a band helmed by Max Parker, who serves as the primary writer, producer, and mixing engineer, utilizing his talents on guitar and vocals during live performances. Lazar Miric, renowned for leading the up-and-coming contemporary jazz band ‘Lavender Town,’ brings his saxophone expertise, infusing Breath’s sound with jazz influences. Dante Hayes, a seasoned bass player with a knack for crowd engagement, adds depth to the band’s live performances. Multi-instrumentalist Bjorn Kriel, primarily on piano but versatile across various instruments, contributes to Breath’s dynamic sound. Mateos Labbe-Phelan, a highly skilled drummer recommended by Aidan McConnel of Burs, provides the rhythmic backbone for Breath’s captivating live shows. With a repertoire ranging from somber to upbeat, Breath aims to deliver unforgettable performances that challenge the current notion of contemporary folk, rock and jazz performance.
